How to Choose Glass Dropper Bottles for Serums and Oils

Glass dropper bottles are the standard pack for face serums, facial oils, essential oils, hair oils and beard oils. They look simple, but a dropper bottle is really three parts – the glass bottle, the dropper closure and the pipette – and all three have to suit your formula. This guide walks through the choices in the order most brands make them.

1. Choose the size

If you want one look across your whole range, pick a style that is made in many sizes, such as 5-100ml Amber Boston Round Glass Dropper Bottle with Black Dropper (DP-0006).

2. Choose the glass color

3. Choose the bottle shape

  • Boston round – the classic rounded-shoulder pharmacy shape. Strong, familiar and easy to label.
  • Cylinder – straight walls for a clean label area.
  • Flat-shoulder – a modern, premium look that many skincare brands use for serums.
  • Square – stands out on the shelf. Example: 30ml Frosted Amber Square Glass Dropper Bottle with Black Dropper (DP-0021).

4. Choose the dropper

  • Collar. Plastic or aluminum, in black, white, gold, silver or rose gold. A metal collar looks more premium.
  • Bulb. Rubber or silicone. Strong essential oils and some actives can affect bulb materials over time, so test your formula in the sample before you approve it.
  • Pipette. Usually glass. Its length should reach close to the bottom of the bottle, so the bottle and dropper should be ordered as a matched set.
  • Press-button droppers fill the pipette with one press and give a tidier, more consistent dose. Example: 15/20/30ml Frosted Cylinder Glass Dropper Bottle with Gold Press-Button Dropper (DP-0022).

Common neck sizes for dropper bottles include 18mm and 20mm. The dropper must match the bottle neck exactly, which is why we confirm neck finish and pipette length on the sample.

5. Decoration

Logos and text can be silk-screened or hot-stamped directly on the glass, or applied as labels. Bottles can also be sprayed in a solid or gradient color, frosted, or both. Ask for a decorated sample if color matching matters to your brand.
